Welcome to
the Hogewegmolen in Noorderwijk
Explore the windmill built at this spot in Noorderwijk, close to Herentals in the
province of Antwerp (Belgium), around 1840, but with older roots. It is a post-mill
which was used for grinding.
The old miller kept this mill functional until november 1960, when the miller died.
Once inactive, a windmill decays fast, but my father bought the mill in 1962. It was
fully restored in 1967, after less than 7 years of inactivity. An additional restoration
followed in 1983, in which the wings were replaced. In January 1990, a serious winterstorm
(out of a series of 8) heavily damaged the mill, especially the vanes. But by August of
the same year, all reparations were carried out.
Above, you see a picture from the late fourties or early fifties. The
picture at left was taken in 1997. Since then, all the trees you see close to the mill
have been cut to ensure enough wind.

site is under construction.
